How can I add my voice to the organization?
Your voice matters. You can reach out to the SAA staff to get help about how you can participate more fully in the organization. Below are the most important ways people contribute their ideas:
- Vote. SAA members elect their peers to the Board and the Nominating Committee. You select the leadership of the Society. Ballots typically open January 2 each year and close about 30 days later.
- Run for office. Any member can self-nominate to the Nominating Committee chair (or any member of that committee) before July 31 of a given year.
- Serve on an advisory committee or task force. SAA members recommend policies to the Board by participating on committees and/or task forces. You can respond to the "open call for committee service," or contact a chair at any time of the year to express your interest in their committee.
- Present or join a session. SAA members can present at the Annual Meeting. You can submit an abstract for a proposed session discussing almost any aspect of the discipline, practice, and/or research.
- Present online. You can propose online seminar topics to promote best practices. SAA members can teach about a wide range of online seminar topics to share knowledge and skills.
- Write. You can submit a proposal to the editor of our magazine, The SAA Archaeological Record, or to our peer-reviewed journals.
