Member Kit

Welcome to the Society for American Archaeology!

This page is designed to help you familiarize yourself with the SAA, the Member Center, and some of the many benefits your membership has to offer. If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact SAA staff by phone at +1 (202) 559-7382 or by email at membership@saa.org.

The Member Center

The Member Center is where you can access the Online Seminar Series Archive and the SAA Press Archive, purchase a discounted JPASS Plan, renew your membership, update your membership information, and shop the SAA Marketplace. You can also find the Society’s online membership directory here, where you can quickly locate your colleagues, friends, and contacts. You can access the Member Center by logging in.

SAA Publications

Members eligible for journals receive online access to all three SAA journals and SAA memoirs and have the option to receive a print version of American Antiquity or Latin American Antiquity. Members also receive an online or print subscription to the Society's magazine, the SAA Archaeological Record. To access the journals, log in to the Member Center and click on the “Online Journal Access” link on the navigation menu that appears on the right side of the page. On the next page, click on the cover of the journal that you would like to explore.

Online Seminar Series

SAA Online Seminars are designed to provide continuing professional development opportunities to student and professional archaeologists and are offered on a wide range of high-interest topics from September through May each year. The series includes a mix of free and fee-based seminars and are recorded and available for various lengths of time. One-hour seminars are available in the Member Center's Online Seminar Archive for two years. Knowledge Series and Rising Scholars seminars are available in the archive indefinitely. Recordings of two-hour seminars are made available to those who registered for two months after the seminar date.

Most online seminar instructors are RPAs and top scholars in their field. Additionally, a majority of the seminars are RPA-certified and RPAs and RAs can receive Continuing Education Credit for completed courses.

The SAA Press

The SAA Press is the publishing arm of the Society for American Archaeology. The press produces a wide range of titles,  all available for sale from publishing partner and distributor University Press of Colorado. Members also have access to electronic versions of select out-of-print titles through the SAA Press Archive, located in the Member Center.

Interest Groups

Interest groups offer SAA members the opportunity to exchange information and ideas on specific topics. To promote these conversations, interest groups may support an e-Community (an online forum for sharing ideas and information) and meet and sponsor sessions at the annual meeting.

Government Affairs

The SAA is a leading voice in support of archaeology. As a member, you have access to the latest archaeopolitical news from Washington, DC, and the world through the SAA's e-newsletter sent monthly to members who subscribe to it. To subscribe to the newsletter, please email gov_affairs@saa.org
