A Letter from SAA's President
April 1, 2017
It’s time to start planning your participation in next year’s 83rd Annual Meeting in Washington, DC. We are excited to host the 2018 Annual Meeting in the nation’s capital and the hometown of SAA headquarters. This year’s meeting will have an added emphasis on poster sessions and will feature a new session, Posters After Hours. The Posters After Hours session will take place on Thursday, April 12, 2018, from 5:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m. and will feature 100 posters, a cash bar, and the chance to connect and engage with your colleagues in a relaxed atmosphere. Submit your poster symposium or poster abstract for a chance to participate in this inaugural session! The session will be designed by the Program Committee.
The SAA’s 83rd Annual Meeting in Washington, DC, April 11–April 15, 2018, Call for Submissions can be accessed online. All submissions must be made via the SAAweb online submission system. Further instructions on how to use the online submission system can be found in the Call for Submissions. Unsure if you want to submit an abstract for an oral or a poster presentation? Check the “Permission to Convert my Paper to a Poster” box to give yourself the option to be part of Posters After Hours.
The web-based system will open for submissions May 1, 2017, and the submissions deadline is Thursday, September 7, 2017, 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Staff will be on hand to assist right up until the moment the system shuts down. There is no grace period, as all submissions are electronic. Nothing may be submitted or changed after the deadline.
Prospective session organizers should note the Amerind Seminar program. Cosponsored by SAA and the Amerind Foundation, this program will recognize an outstanding symposium at the 2018 Annual Meeting. Complete information on this honor is located in the Call for Submissions and on the Amerind website (www.amerind.org). If you wish to have your symposium considered for this program, be sure to check the appropriate box during your web submission.
As you may be aware, presenting at the annual meeting is a privilege of membership in SAA.
• Current members submitting must renew their membership for 2018 before the close of the membership grace period, January 30, 2018.
• Nonmembers submitting must join the Society by November 15, 2017.
Should either non-members or renewing members miss their respective renewal/join deadline, the Board of Directors will reject the submission. This action will supersede any action by the Program Committee. Once rejected by the Board, the pending submission cannot be reinstated. Also, please be aware that the deadlines are firm.
SAA is excited about the 83rd Annual Meeting and the opportunity for participants and attendees to engage with one another even more in a highlighted poster session. We encourage you to submit your abstracts and sessions early and look forward to seeing you in Washington, DC, next April!
