Dear Colleagues:

 Even though we have not yet met in Austin, it is time to start planning your participation in next year’s 80th Annual Meeting in San Francisco, CA. We are excited to take our meeting to “The City by the Bay”, and we hope you will join us for what is sure to be an unforgettable event!

Above is the link to Call for Submissions for SAA’s 80th Annual Meeting in San Francisco, CA, April 15-19, 2015. As you may be aware, submissions are only accepted electronically via SAAweb.

The web system is simple, straight forward, and user-friendly. The system allow users to make changes to their submissions online, count and summarize participant roles in one convenient location, register for the meeting, and allow participants to update his/her SAA membership profile instantly. Session chairs can invite participants to their session via automated emails or simply by providing the participant with their session ID number. The system will even auto-submit your session with all completed participants (meaning the participant has completed all required steps including the registration payment) when the deadline hits.

The web-based system will be open for submissions on May 1, 2014. Once available, you will be able to access the system by visiting the SAAweb homepage (www.saa.org) and clicking the submissions link.

The submissions deadline is Thursday, September 11, 2014, 3 pm Eastern Time. There is no grace period, as all submissions are electronic. There are no late fees, as nothing may be submitted after the deadline, and changes to a submission may be made up until the deadline. The afternoon deadline is to ensure that staff are on hand to assist right up to the moment the system shuts down at 3 pm Eastern Time on Thursday, September 11, 2014.

A note about the Amerind Seminar program for session organizers: Co-sponsored by the SAA and the Amerind Foundation, this program will recognize an outstanding symposium at the 2015 Annual Meeting. Complete information is located in the Call for Submissions and on the Amerind web site (www.amerind.org). If you wish to have your symposium considered for this program, be certain to select the appropriate check box on your web submission form.

As you may be aware, presenting at the annual meeting is a privilege of membership in SAA. Current members submitting must renew their memberships for 2015 before the close of the membership grace period, January 30, 2015. Nonmembers submitting must join the Society by November 17, 2014.

Should either non-members or renewing members miss their respective renewal/join deadline, the Board of Directors will reject the submission. This action will supersede any action by the Program Committee. Once rejected by the Board, the pending submission cannot be reinstated. Also, please be aware that the deadlines are firm.

While the 2015 80th Annual Meeting is just over twelve months away, I know many of you will want to organize your contribution before summer arrives with its many demands.  We look forward to seeing you in San Francisco next April.

P.S. New for the 2015 Annual Meeting – The Center for Digital Antiquity will archive all meeting abstracts as records in the Digital Archaeological Record (tDAR). Participants will have the opportunity to upload a copy of their poster, paper, or data set (3 files, up to a total of 30MB) associated with the abstract to tDAR at no cost for long-term preservation and access.
