The SAA Cosigns Position Statement: Guidance on Publication of Sites, Finds, and Samples from Ukraine
The ongoing Russian aggression against the sovereignty of Ukraine necessitates increased vigilance when dealing with Ukrainian archaeological sites, finds, and samples.
The Society for American Archaeology (SAA) has joined with international cultural resource organizations on a statement offering guidance on the publication of sites, finds, and samples from Ukraine. The statement calls on conference, meeting, and session organizers and scientific publishers to rigorously vet submissions from Russian authors concerning Ukrainian cultural heritage to ensure that research and publications utilizing Ukrainian sites and resources are properly attributed and publication and dissemination is authorized by Ukrainian researchers, presenters, and authors.
The "Position Statement: The War in Ukraine & Ukrainian Archaeology" was initiated by the European Association of Archaeologists and adopted by the following organizations: the SAA, the European Association of Archaeologists, the American Cultural Resources Association, the International Scientific Committee on Archaeological Heritage Management, the PaleoAnthropology Society, and the Register of Professional Archaeologists.
