Government Affairs

SAA is a leading voice in protecting archaeology in the United States and around the world. By representing the archaeological community before the U.S. Congress, the White House, federal agencies, and international organizations, SAA works to defend the archaeological record and our shared cultural heritage for present and future generations.

SAA Government Affairs Committees

SAA's government affairs program is comprised of the Government Affairs Committee and the International Government Affairs Committee, which work in combination with the Board of Directors and the Manager, Government Affairs, in developing positions on public policy. The Committee on Repatriation tracks national legislation, testifies at hearings when necessary, and represents SAA in discussions and negotiations on repatriation issues.
